The Project Needs

A 20 Year Old Company looking to spring into the present and meet the online needs of their customers

The Opportunity & Solution

The logistical needs based on the franchising nature of Nothing Bundt Cakes presented the need for a unique eCommerce solution.  Nothing Bundt Cakes has over 350 bakeries across North America. Each bakery dictated its pricing and delivery service area; what that meant for the eCommerce component is that we needed to capture user locations without requesting too much information from users upfront, especially those unfamiliar with the Nothing Bundt Cake brand or products.

I found the need for joyful education regarding Nothing Bundt Cakes' catalog of products and transparency in ordering and fulfillment choices. The proposed solution married eCommerce experiences that many users would be familiar with, such as those from Amazon.com or The Home Depot, but still personalized to accommodate the customizable and perishable nature of Nothing Bundt Cakes' handcrafted creations.

The proposed solution also included keeping a persistent location using browser cookies to ensure that new and experienced users could see the price of products while browsing the catalog. We found that transparency would also encourage users to feel comfortable starting the order process.

Based on the user research and new brand direction that Nothing Bundt Cakes strives for, I worked as the UX architect to create a seamlessly flowing site into their new eCommerce goals. I assisted our UI designer in transforming Nothing Bundt Cakes' digital experience that married the joyful "winks" that Nothing Bundt Cakes wanted while making the process incredibly intuitive to the seasoned eCommerce shopper.
